Reflections from the First Nations Energy Summit
Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the First Nations Energy Summit hosted by Clean Energy BC in Vancouver. It was my first time attending, and I was impressed by the scale of the event. With over 600 attendees, the Summit has clearly grown significantly since its inception and reflects the increasing momentum in the Indigenous energy space.
Our team at ACET was excited to launch a new project at the Summit and to take part in many meaningful conversations focused on Indigenous utilities. The collective energy in the room was undeniable. Momentum is building toward greater Indigenous energy sovereignty, and I’m excited to be contributing to this important movement.
As someone relatively new to the energy sector, I also spent time working through moments of imposter syndrome. What became clear, however, is that the core of my work remains the same regardless of the field: relationship building. To create meaningful, systems-level change, strong relationships are essential. That truth continues to ground and guide my work.
And as a fun bonus, the Hyatt Regency was hosting a local gingerbread competition! An unexpected and welcome holiday cheer.
