Forest Landscape Planning: East and West Kootenays
Interested in helping shape the future of our forests in the East and West Kootenays? Consider making your voice heard through the Forest Landscape Planning process. Forest Landscape Plans are a new form of forest management planning in British Columbia (BC). They support healthy, resilient ecosystems while ensuring the land is managed for a range of economic, cultural, and ecological values. These plans are being co-developed with First Nations and the province and are intended to guide long-term forest use at both landscape and stand levels.
The Kootenay Lake process is co-led by Ktunaxa and Secwépemc, with representatives from yaqan nuʔkiy, Shuswap Band, Adams Lake Band, Skwlāx te Secwepemcúl̓ecw, Ktunaxa Nation Council Society, and the province. The Cranbrook process is co-led by Shuswap Band, ʔaq̓am, yaqan nuʔkiy, and Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡiʾit First Nation, Ktunaxa Nation Council, and the province.
Forest Landscape Plans will:
✅ Reflect local Indigenous & community values
✅ Guide future forest activities
✅ Support ecosystem health
As members of the broader public, we invite you to stay informed about this process and share your general perspectives through a short public survey. This is the first step in a series of many. There will be more opportunities to engage in the future; however, please note that general public participation will be more centered on informational updates and passive techniques.
